Our 10 Favorite Restaurants on Castro Street in Mountain View
There are plenty of amazing places to dine in the South Bay, but downtown Mountain View undoubtedly offers some of the best. We asked the staff of locals at Hotel Strata, located just a few blocks from the epicurean epicenter of Mountain View, for the best restaurants and can't-miss places to eat on Castro Street.

  • Vaso Azzurro Ristorante – Italian: Serving Northern Italian cuisine in inviting setting, this family-owned restaurant offers a full menu of home-style takes on classic cuisine. In addition to the amazing food and ample wine and spirits selection, we love Vaso Azzurro (which means "blue vase") for its live jazz music every Friday and Saturday night.
  • Eureka! – American: A favorite across the board for burgers and upscale pub-grub, Eureka! is staple in Mountain View with its fun and friendly atmosphere. Boasting an incredible selection of craft brews and one of the best whiskey menus in town, it's one of the best restaurants to experience a taste of the Bay Area.
  • Le Plonc – Wine Bar: Inspired by the vino culture of Europe, this sleek and modern wine bar offers a highly curated selection of wines from around the world, with a small plates menu, charcuterie, and desserts to perfectly complement each blend. The bar has a patio and a small library, with pleasant ambient music, making it great for dates and get-togethers with friends.
  • Le Fontaine Restaurant – French / Italian Fusion: With classic dishes flavored with a taste of Italy and France, this chic and cozy bistro is perfect for casual lunches, elegant dinners, or Sunday brunch. Take your pick of wood-fired pizza, selections from a full bar, or stop by for happy hour specials at the bar.
  • Scratch – American: For a refined take on American comfort food, Scratch is the place to go. Choose from an Instagram-ready menu of appetizers and entrees or join in on the family-style prix fixe menus served Sunday nights. Scratch also offers a solid selection of gluten-free options, kids' menus, daily happy hours, and a decadent weekend brunch.
  • Cascal – Latin / Tapas: One of the liveliest spots on Castro Street, this Latin American tapas bar and restaurant is the place to be for small plates, sangria, and a selection of traditional dishes. Come for happy hour, theater specials, or festive live salsa and flamenco music Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Asian Box – Asian Street Food: A popular chain in the region and one of the best for gluten-free diners, this DIY restaurant serves wholesome, hormone-free Asian dishes. Pick a creative box from the menu or build your own with customized proteins, sauces, and sides, and top it off with a refreshing and exotic drink.
  • Sakoon – Indian: Treat your taste buds to the bold tastes of India by way of traditional and contemporary dishes served in a festive atmosphere. Sakoon, the Indian word for "peace," offers a lunch buffet and daily happy hour specials, making it one of the best values on Castro Street, along with an eclectic dinner service.
  • Xanh – Vietnamese: Experience the flavors of Vietnam served in an ultramodern menu and setting. Xanh serves vegetarian selections alongside traditional meat and poultry dishes in an upscale space, with an incredible buffet-only lunch service that features nearly 30 distinct dishes and happy hour specials every day.
  • Mediterranean Grill House – Middle Eastern: A family-owned restaurant offering all-natural and halal meats, this casual eatery has indoor and outdoor seating from which to enjoy a quintessential Middle Eastern menu on Castro Street. Succulent shawarma, kebabs, falafel, and hummus are musts, available in wraps or plates.
