A Classic Pacific Coast Highway Road Trip
Head up the coast from SoCal and San Diego along Pacific Coast Highway and plan your perfect road trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. While you drive, take in the sprawling coastal cliffsides and beaches, stop at scenic overlooks, and roll down your windows to soak up the Cali summer sun. There's nothing quite like hitting the open road in California. Check out our list of some of the must-see spots on your way to the Bay Area you won't want to miss on this classic adventure.

Highway One

Known as "The One", Highway One, also commonly known as Pacific Coast Highway, is the best way to take in the beauty of the California Coast on your road trip. This classic highway is a landmark unto itself, winding its way along the coast past some of the state's most notable and historic sights, sprawling national parks, and incredible vistas. This is the road to take.

Santa Barbara

One of your first stops should be this picturesque California gem, where you can explore the Urban Wine Trail, stroll along East Beach, browse botanical gardens, or check out historic Spanish missions.

Pismo Beach

This scenic spot offers the quintessential laid-back Cali beach experience. Embark on a sea cave tour courtesy of Central Coast Kayaks, take a break from the road and unwind on the beach, or just enjoy the scenery on your way through.

Morro Bay

A halfway point along Highway One, Morro Bay's most notable landmark is Morro Rock, a large volcanic rock perched along the beach that presents a once-in-a-lifetime photo op. You won't want to miss it.

Big Sur

There's no mistaking the natural beauty of this sprawling 90 acres of coastline between Hearst Castle and Carmel. It's the perfect place to stop for a hike and take in sights like McWay Falls. The vistas are incredible.

Monterey

Home to some of the best seafood in California hands down, this charming town is a great spot to grab a bite. If you really want to go exploring, check out Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park or Natural Bridges State Beach.

Santa Cruz

As you close in on the Bay Area, you'll want to stop at the famous Santa Cruz Boardwalk for the iconic California boardwalk experience. You can't miss this must-see stop along Pacific Coast Highway.

Half Moon Bay

Just south of San Francisco, Half Moon Bay offers a wealth of discoveries, from the Cypress Tree Tunnel to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. Plus, opportunities for whale watching abound!
