STAGE PRESENTS: HOSTING AND PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP Facilitated by comedian, host, and Santa Clara County Poet Laureate, Mike McGee.  TARGET To break the spell and fears of stage presence for those curious about developing an onstage persona with a specific focus on organizing, emceeing and hosting events. SCHEDULE (ESTIMATED TIMES) 30 minutes: We will discuss our personal stage experiences and assess where public speaking, professional stage presence and hosting skills have been beneficial in everyday life. 60 minutes: We will walk through a variety of performative exercises and microphone practices with a focus on banter and comfort. CONCLUSION 30 minutes: Questions, advice and dialogue. BRING Weather permitting, we wiil be outside of Markham House for the duration, utilizing the porch as a stage. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Bottled water will be available. You may want to take notes. DIRECTIONS Please enter History Park from Phelan Avenue. Free parking is available at the Staff/Volunteer parking lot on Phelan Avenue. Paid parking is available at the end of Phelan Avenue for $6. Mighty Mike McGee is a well-traveled "stand-up poet" and storyteller from San José, California. In the world of poetry slam, he is the first to win both the 2003 National Poetry Slam Individual Grand Championship and the 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Grand Championship. He has toured very extensively throughout United States, Canada and Europe. Since 2002, he's covered several hundred thousand miles performing his brand of poetry and humor. McGee has been featured on HBO's Def Poetry Jam, CBC Radio and Television, and NPR's Snap Judgment. He was one of the first Americans to perform spoken word at the University of Paris, la Sorbonne in 2005. He was appointed Poet Laureate of Santa Clara County (Silicon Valley) for 2018 & 2019.
