#39;s time we give Sauvignon Blanc another look. Many of us are familiar with a delicious style of Sauvignon Blanc characterized by a grassy or almost herbal aroma, but Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre and Fume-Blanc in the Loire Valley in France, often grown in limestone soil, is distinctly different, and so are those made in New Zealand and elsewhere. I look forward to tasting the different styles side by side at our next tasting. A personal thought about Sauvignon Blanc: I most often prefer sipping Chardonnay, for instance, to sipping Sauvignon Blanc. But at an early Grapevine tasting in May of 2011, a wine expert/speaker from Kendall Jackson convinced me that often, paired with food, Sauvignon Blanc rules! The next Grapevine tasting will take place on Wednesday, May 9th, 7pm. Each attendee will bring a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from any provenance or vintage or of any price. Reservations are necessary and must be made by Friday noon, May 4th. You can make your reservations here: The door charge for Berkeley City Club members is $15, and for guests it is $20. If you make reservations but find you cannot attend, please let me know. Knowing who will actually show up is essential in our efforts to seat tasters comfortably.
